The Integrity Committee has concluded an investigation on a case of cheating by a former National Record-holding Competitor in multiple events spanning several competitions. As a result, they have been banned for 2-years and 6-months from competing.

The Competitor, who initially denied any wrongdoing until presented with evidence, also had their results disqualified spanning several years, with the exception of 3x3x3 Fewest Moves. Because the competitor was uncooperative, the WIC disqualified their times from all competitions where the results were suspected to be illegitimate.

The intent of this report is to publish the reasons behind the decision to ban the Competitor and disqualify their results. This document also aims to serve as a warning of the potential incidents that can occur due to inattentive judges, and to demonstrate the WIC’s commitment to fairness in all regions. The WIC later clarifies the Committee’s current stance on disqualifications in case of cheating as a whole.

The WIC has elected to fully anonymize this report due to the age of the accused competitor. The WIC strongly discourages the community from publicizing the name of the accused competitor for this reason. The full report can be found here.

Dear WCA Community,

The WCA Integrity Committee (WIC) is looking for new members! Everyone may apply, and we strongly encourage Community members who are not a current WCA Volunteer to apply. The WIC also values diversity amongst its team, and seeks applications from underrepresented cultural backgrounds, nationalities, ages, abilities, and genders.

What does the WIC do?

The WCA Integrity Committee primarily performs independent investigations involving WCA Community members, WCA Volunteers, Regional Organizations, and incidents during WCA Competitions or on official, online WCA platforms. We also advise Delegates on managing incidents, actively working on training materials related to these topics for the organization as a whole. On average, members work 3-6 hours per week. For more details of our rights and duties, please see the following materials:

Open Positions

The WIC is split into four subteams, and three of them have open positions. All members must:

  • Be able to communicate clearly in written English
  • Be 18 years or older by September 1, 2025
  • Have attended at least a few WCA competitions (as a competitor or guest)
  • Be willing and able to use Slack for communication

Generally, we also look for and value logical and analytical reasoning, collaboration, discretion, and a positive presence in the Community. Fluence in a language other than English is also extremely valuable to our team.

Conduct Subteam - up to 3 positions open

Do you like uncovering facts and following leads? Do you have a knack for spotting inconsistencies or gaps in a story? The Conduct Team investigates violations of the Code of Conduct and WCA Regulations, including cheating and behavioral allegations. A successful member of this subteam is skilled at thinking critically, approaches issues with non-judgement, and is comfortable handling sensitive topics. Although not required, desirable candidates would have experience in conflict resolution, child safeguarding, investigative roles, or expertise in one or more speedcubing events.

Ethics Subteam - up to 1 position open

Are you motivated by fairness and upholding professional standards? Are you comfortable making decisions in situations with no obvious right answer? The Ethics Team investigates violations of the Code of Ethics amongst WCA Volunteers, focusing on conduct and financial concerns. A successful member of this subteam excels with nuance, has the ability to apply large ethical concepts practically, and maintains professional boundaries between work inside the Committee and competition environments. Although not required, desirable candidates would have experience in mediation, debate, persuasive writing, or compliance.

Development Subteam - up to 1 position open

Do you enjoy turning complex policies into clear, practical resources? Are you the type of person who sees a problem and immediately thinks of how to fix it? The Development Team focuses on developing projects based on the current needs of the WIC and the organization as a whole. A successful member of this subteam is a self-starter, has a passion for educating others, and finds creative solutions to complex problems. Although not required, desirable candidates would have experience in education, child safeguarding, writing documentation/workflows, or developing independent projects.

Dear WCA Community,

We are happy to announce that we have a new Team Leader. Lisa Kucala will become the new Leader of the WCA Executive Assistants Team (WEAT).

Lisa was selected by the WCA Board and approved in a vote, as described in Section 5 of our Motion about WCA Committees and Teams. This appointment is effective as of 5th August 2025.

Lisa will be WCA's first Executive Assistant Team Leader and we wish her all the best as she takes on her new responsibilities.

The WCA Board of Directors and Major Championship Team are excited to open bids for 2026 Continental Championships to be selected per procedures in
Motion 22.2024.1. We would like to receive applications for the following regions for 2026 Continental Championships:

  • Africa
  • Asia
  • North America
  • Oceania
  • South America

If you are interested in hosting one of these championships, please discuss with your country’s Delegates and Regional Organization. Please note that organizing a continental championship is a significant time commitment. Applications must be endorsed by a WCA Recognized Regional Organization. (Note: The WCA Board has proposed a change to Motion 22.2024.1, to accept applications from registered entities in regions not represented by a Regional Organization)

If you are interested, please send your application documents to [email protected], [email protected], and [email protected], before August 31st, 2025, 23:59 UTC. Applications must contain the subject line “< Location/Team > bid for < Continent > Championship 2026”. Documents must be sent in PDF format in two versions: one full version with all the details for the application, and another version with sensitive details (if any) removed to make public.

At a minimum, your application needs to address:

  1. When would you like to hold your Continental Championship 2026

    • a. Possible dates.
    • b. Number of days of the competition.
    • c. Overlap with local school holiday periods.
  2. Where would you like to hold your Continental Championship in your country?

    • a. City should be interesting to visit with ample sightseeing opportunities.
    • b. Ease of international, national, and local travel.
    • c. Availability of hotels/apartments with different price categories.
    • d. Venue, venue size, and venue setup (stage, audience, tables to practice, side rooms).
    • e. Technology available including internet capabilities, video streaming, lighting, sound equipment.
    • f. Number of competitors and spectators that can be hosted.
  3. What would the organization team and competition volunteer look like?

    • a. Core team members
    • b. Experience of the core team.
    • c. Involvement of other parties.
    • d. Quantity and quality of local volunteers (guideline is 20% of competitors should be volunteers).
    • e. Required support by foreign Delegates.
  4. What would be the competition budget?

    • a. Costs (venue, venue services, stage, equipment, decorations, website, badges/lanyards/gift packs, prizes).
    • b. Income (registration fees, local government).
      • Note: Your proposed budget should not assume any financial sponsorship from the WCA.

Previous public versions of Continental and Worlds Championship bid documents are contained in this folder. This Spreadsheet contains a fairly comprehensive list of topics that should be arranged and budgeted for a large competition.

We encourage all organization teams to reach out to WMCT. We are happy to answer questions, provide advice, or offer further resources to aid with your bid.

Once applications are closed, the WCA Board will appoint a selection committee, interview shortlisted applicants and vote in order to decide where the 2026 Continental Championships will take place.

The WCA Communication Team (WCT) is looking for new members! Interested community members of all backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Applications are open to everyone; it is not a requirement to hold a current position in the WCA to be considered.

​What does the WCT do?

The official rights and duties of the WCT are documented in WCA Motion 10.2024.1. The WCT has a variety of responsibilities including dealing with inquiries from general members of the public, working on social media projects, and maintaining and moderating the WCA Forums.

Where do you fit in?

​The team is split into various subteams, each focusing on various tasks. The positions the WCT is recruiting for are as follows:

Social Media: Do you like telling stories and bringing people together? Are you full of fun ideas to share the excitement of speedcubing with the world? If yes, then you might be a great fit for the Social Media subteam! In this role, you’ll work on all kinds of projects, like showcasing different regions and their WCA organisations, getting the speedcubing community engaged on social media, and more. We’d also love to hear your own ideas and help bring them to life!

Creative Media Production: We’re looking for people who can help with graphic design and video editing to support our current projects and take on exciting new ones. If you have skills in creating visuals, editing videos, or bringing creative ideas to life, we’d love to have you on the team!

​In addition to the above specified roles and responsibilities, the WCT has a variety of miscellaneous tasks which we are responsible for, which can include collaboration with other WCA Teams and more. Members are also expected to assist with general team duties, such as handling email enquiries.

The qualities and requirements expected of candidates are:

  • At least 16 years of age as of August 1st, 2025
  • Availability throughout the week – expected time commitment of 1-3 hours per week
  • Ability to communicate fluently and professionally in English.

Dear WCA Community,

The WCA Regulations Committee would like to inform you that the WCA Guidelines have now been merged into the WCA Regulations, bringing these important documents together. This change improves the accessibility of this information without changing the requirements in place at WCA Competitions.

A new version of the WCA Regulations, incorporating the content previously contained in the WCA Guidelines, has been published. This version is in effect for competitions beginning on, or after, July 17th, 2025.

You can review the changes made in this comparison on GitHub. You can click on “Files changed” to see the complete files of the Regulations and the former Guidelines, where all changes and additions are marked green and removals are marked red.

Changes include:

  • Moving all former Guidelines into the Regulations
  • Removing the Guidelines
  • Updating cross-references to former Guidelines
  • Amending the ‘Notes’ header section to reflect the amended structure

The changes made are only structural, and no substantive changes to the procedures in place at WCA Competitions have been made at this time. The WCA Regulations Committee continues to work on the development of the WCA Regulations, and intends to publish the next update to the WCA Regulations to take effect for competitions beginning on, or after, January 1st, 2026.

Dear WCA Community,

There will be an appointment of a new WCA Executive Assistants Team (WEAT) Leader. The WCA Board is currently overseeing WEAT, and recent team growth has created a need to formally appoint a leader.

Candidates are expected to fulfill their terms (24 months) and to spend at least 8 hours per week on average to work for the team. The qualities expected of candidates are:

  • Solid knowledge of the structure and workflow inside the WCA
  • Proficiency in English
  • Good communication skills and proficiency in English
  • A reasonable daily availability to deploy the duties
  • Team and project management capabilities

The application period for candidates to submit their candidacy documents is from now until July 28th, 2025, 23:59 UTC. Interested candidates can send the application privately to the WCA Board ([email protected]).

The candidacy documents must be in PDF format, and must include:

Dear WCA Community,

The WCA Board together with the Major Championships Team (WMCT) is thrilled to officially announce that Uppsala, Sweden has been selected as the host city of the 2027 WCA World Championship.

The selection of Uppsala follows the highly successful Rubik’s WCA World Championship 2025 held in Seattle and marks a return to Europe for the WCA’s premier event, the first time since Paris hosted the Championship in 2017.

Sweden’s Regional Organization, SveKub, in collaboration with the WMCT, is committed to ensuring that the 2027 WCA World Championship reflects the spirit and talent within the speedcubing community. A WCA World Championship is a global gathering that unites our community as well as an opportunity to see the world’s best speedcubers compete and to crown the World Champions across all 17 official WCA events.

The Board and WMCT are looking forward to working with SveKub over the coming 24 months of intense preparation for the World Championships.

The World Cube Association is excited to announce that the WCA World Championship 2025 is just around the corner! From July 3rd to July 6th, over 2,000 competitors from 74 countries will gather in Seattle, USA, for the largest official speedcubing competition in WCA history.

Held every two years, the World Championship brings the global cubing community together — not just to celebrate the passion we all share, but also to crown the world’s best speedcubers. And with everything planned for 2025, this edition is going to be the most exciting one yet.

What to Expect

This year’s event is more than just fast solves and world-class competition — it’s a celebration of the entire cubing community. The championship will be livestreamed on the WCA’s official YouTube channel, giving fans around the world the chance to follow the action live.

Both competitors and spectators can visit the WCA booth, which will feature:

  • Meet-and-greets with famous cubers
  • Cool goodies to take home

Founded in 2004, the World Cube Association (WCA) is the official governing body for competitive speedcubing. It sets standardized rules, tracks official records, and fuels a thriving community across 165 countries. In its 20 year history, there have been over 14,000 sanctioned competitions and 265,197 unique participants at WCA competitions. Dear WCA Community,

With the term of Board Members Ethan Pride and Kerrie Jarman coming to an end, an anonymous election took place on June 1st, 2025. The election was conducted according to the WCA Motion: Election of Directors.

As Ethan has completed his third consecutive term, he is not eligible for re-election. Ethan's term on the WCA Board of Directors will be concluded on July 1st, 2025. We thank him for his tremendous service as both a WCA Board member, WCA Chair, and WCA Executive Director.

The WCA is calling for applications trom suitable individuals to lead the WCA Software Team (WST). The current leader, Gregor Billing was appointed to the role in June 2021 and has served two consecutive 24 month terms. The WCA thanks Gregor for his exemplary leadership during this time. As Gregor’s role cannot be renewed for an additional term, an open-election is required as per the WCA Motion 10.2025.0. Gregor is permitted to reapply.

Candidates are expected to fulfill their terms (24 months) and to spend at least 10 hours per week on average to work for the Team. The qualities expected of candidates are:

Strong technical expertise (including experience with tools, frameworks and platforms used by the WCA e.g. GitHub, React, NextJS etc)

Dear WCA Community,

In the first quarter of 2025, the WCA Quality Assurance Committee (WQAC) has been developing initiatives to improve overall quality in the World Cube Association. Here are the main updates within the Committee in the last few months:

The WQAC is currently working in three different areas: Projects, Investigations, and the Learning Management System (LMS).

In the Projects area, the Committee has developed an update to the WCA Scramble Accountability Policy (WSAP) in line with the 2025 Regulations and Guidelines.

In the Investigations area, the WQAC has conducted investigations regarding quality issues at competitions, such as:

  • Unfair extras given by Delegates;
  • Delegates influencing organizers to add their favorite events to competitions;
  • Lack of communication in WCA Teams;
  • Unusual handling of scramble sets;
  • Failing to follow the WSAP and WCA Regulations

In the LMS area, the WQAC LMS sub-team kicked off the content creation for the Trainee to Junior Delegate course. By surveying Regional and Senior Delegates, we conducted a training needs assessment to gain valuable insight into what a Trainee Delegate should and should not know in order to become a Junior Delegate. We have also been hard at work determining the curriculum plan for the training and have begun creating questions for the Trainee to Junior Delegate training assessment. This work would not have been possible without our new members, who have been able to use their individual and collective expertise to develop this project further.

In December 2024, the Committee onboarded ten new members, who have been quite productive and are of great value to the Committee. Please welcome them:

The WCA Regulations Committee (WRC) has been hard at work over the past few months, and we have some updates to share with you!

General Updates

  • In January, the team onboarded 10 new members, who have all been a huge help in continuing our operations. Congratulations to those members!
  • We would like to recognize Jonas Balsfulland (Delegate Reports subteam leader) and Oliver Hexter (Regulations Development subteam leader), who have recently been promoted to Senior Member!

The WCA Competition Announcement Team (WCAT) is seeking new members! The application is open to any community member, but please review the expected tasks and qualities.

What does the WCAT do?

The official rights and duties of the WCAT are documented in WCA Motion 10.2024.2.

The tasks of a WCAT member include:

  • Review and announce competitions around the world on a daily basis with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Handle change requests to competitions.
  • Engage in frequent discussions and voting within the Team.
  • Make and communicate changes to the WCA Competition Requirements Policy.

Requirements

Applicants are expected to possess the following qualities:

  • Proactive personality, detail-oriented, and solution-oriented mindset.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Availability on-call throughout the day to engage in time-sensitive discussions
  • Availability for about 30 minutes, several times per week to work on competition announcements or changes.
  • Good familiarity with the WCA Competition Requirements Policy (WCRP) and the WCA competition organizer role.
  • Communication and/or policy-writing skills are not required but are strongly encouraged.
  • Be at least 16 years of age as of April 5th, 2025.

  • Candidates must not be a serving member of the WCA Board, the WCA Regulations Committee, or the WCA Integrity Committee (or must be willing to relinquish the role upon appointment to this role).

What does the WAC do?

The official rights and duties of the WAC are documented in WCA Motion 10.2025.4 - Appeals Committee. The WCA Appeals Committee is a small team that handles appeals made by members of the WCA affected by a decision made by either the WCA Integrity Committee (WIC) or the WCA Regulations Committee (WRC).

Members of the WAC examine the provided evidence and determine whether the grounds for an appeal are valid or not. Then, a thorough analysis of the original committee’s decision is made to reach a final verdict which can overturn or uphold the decision.

Requirements and expectations

The qualities and requirements expected of candidates are:

  • At least 16 years of age as of April 1st, 2025.
  • Availability throughout the week – expected time commitment of ~3 hours per week.
  • Ability to communicate comfortably in written English.
  • Ability to patiently communicate with people whose first language is not English.
  • Ability to communicate constructively and respectfully, even when you disagree.
  • Familiarity with the WCA Regulations and Guidelines, though it is not necessary nor expected that applicants have a perfect working knowledge.
  • Familiarity with the Code of Conduct and the Code of Ethics.
  • Familiarity with the competition environment.

How to Apply

Candidacy documents must include:

  • A brief personal introduction.
  • Summary of activities done for the WCA and the cubing community.
  • Overview of skills relevant to the role.
  • Motivation for joining the WAC.

Candidacy documents must be in PDF format. The application period is open for candidates to submit their candidacy document from now until April 11th, 2025, 23:59 UTC privately to Rui Reis ([email protected]).

You can expect a reply to confirm whether your application is complete, and may receive a request for an interview with the WAC Leader and up to two other members.

Guido was selected by the WCA Board by voting among them, following Section 4 of our Motion about Senior Delegates.

The WCA Major Championship Team (WMCT), is pleased to be opening an Expression of Interest (EoI) period for the 2026 Asian, African, Oceanic, South American, and North American Championships, following the procedures defined in Motion 22.2024.1..

This EoI period will serve as an opportunity to discuss possibilities about the future of Continental Championships, and will allow the WMCT to have more information about the situation and the interest for these Championships. It is strongly recommended that an EoI is submitted if you intend to lodge a formal bid.

Organizing a WCA Championship of this scale takes a significant amount of time and effort, spanning pre-event preparation, the championship itself, and post-event tasks. It is imperative that the Championship organizers, as well as a substantial proportion of the WCA Delegates in your country are committed to the preparation and the execution of this event. Please also note that applications must be made by a WCA Recognized Regional Organization.

To register your interest please send an email to [email protected] before March 31st, 2025, 23:59 UTC with the subject line of “EoI from <Location/Team> to bid for <Continent> Championship 2026”.

This email should include at least:
1. The Regional Organization that would be sending the application

The WCA Major Championship Team (WMCT), together with the WCA Board of Directors, is pleased to open bids for the 2027 World Championship following the procedures as defined in Motion 22.2024.1.

Organizing a WCA Championship of this scale takes a significant amount of time and effort, spanning pre-event preparation, the championship itself, and post-event tasks. It is imperative that the Championship organizers, as well as a substantial proportion of the WCA Delegates in your country are committed to the preparation and the execution of this event. Please also note that applications must be made by a WCA Recognized Regional Organization.

If you are interested, please send your application documents to [email protected] , CC’ing [email protected] and [email protected], before May 31st, 2025, 23:59 UTC. Applications must contain the subject line “<Location/Team> bid for World Championship 2027”. Documents must be sent in PDF format in two versions: one full version with all the details for the application, and another version with sensitive details (if any) removed to make public.

We strongly encourage you to include as much information, graphics, calculations, spreadsheets as needed to support your bid. At a minimum, your application needs to address:

  1. When would you like to hold the World Championship 2027

    • a. Possible dates.
    • b. Number of days of the competition.
    • c. Overlap with local school holiday periods.
  2. Where would you like to hold the World Championship 2027 in your country?

    • a. City should be interesting to visit with ample sightseeing opportunities.
    • b. Number of competitors and spectators that can be hosted.
    • c. Ease of international, national, and local travel.
    • d. Availability of hotels/apartments with different price categories.
    • e. Venue, venue size, and venue setup, including stage setup, audience location, tables to practice, and available side rooms.
    • f. Technology available, including: internet capabilities, video streaming, lighting, and sound equipment.
  3. What would the organization team and competition volunteer look like?

    • a. Core team members, their roles, and experience.
    • b. Involvement of other parties.
    • c. Number of local volunteers. Note that the typical standard is 20% of competitors should be part of the volunteer team.
    • d. Required support needed by foreign Delegates.
  4. What would be the competition budget?

    • a. Cost, including: venue, venue services, stage, equipment, decorations, website, badges/lanyards/gift packs, prizes, etc.
    • b. Income, including: registration fees, sponsoring, local government, etc.

Previous public versions of World Championship bid documents from 2019 on are contained in this folder. This Spreadsheet contains a fairly comprehensive list of topics that should be arranged and budgeted for a large competition.

Once applications are closed, a selection committee will be appointed. The committee will interview shortlisted applicants and vote to appoint a host for the 2027 World Championship.

The WCA Major Championships Team (WMCT) is happy to announce that Arnhem, The Netherlands has been selected as the host of the 2026 WCA European Championship.

Speedcubing Nederland, in collaboration with the WMCT, is committed to ensuring that the 2026 WCA European Championship fully reflects the spirit and talent of the European speedcubing community, while providing an exceptional experience for both competitors and spectators.

WMCT is happy to share that applications will soon open for the remaining 2026 Continental Championships and 2027 World Championship.

Dear WCA Community,

There will be an appointment of a new WCA Marketing Team Leader, as Saransh Grover’s term is ending. The WCA would like to take this opportunity to thank Saransh for leading the Marketing Team since March of 2021.

Candidates are expected to fulfill their terms (24 months) and to spend at least 8 hours per week on average to work for the team. The ideal candidate has:

  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • A solid background in marketing, with expertise in digital marketing, corporate branding, content creation, sponsorship acquisition and management, and social media strategy.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities, with a global mindset.
  • Strategic thinking and innovation to drive the WCA’s marketing efforts forward.
  • A passion for cubing and a commitment to the WCA’s mission.

The application period for candidates to submit their candidacy documents is from now until February 20th, 2025, 23:59 UTC. Interested candidates can send the application privately to the Executive Assistant Team ([email protected]), CC’ing the WCA Board ([email protected]).

The candidacy documents must be in PDF format, and must include:

  1. Brief personal introduction.
  2. Summary of activities done for the WCA.
  3. Ambitions as the Marketing Team Leader of the WCA.

Candidates are additionally asked to send a copy of their applications which can be made public at the end of the application period.

After the application period, the WCA Board will make a selection by voting and will announce the new Leader, as described in Section 5 of WCA Motion 10.2024.0.
